A power outage was reported in parts of Olympia, Washington, on Friday, September 25, 2026, with residents on the city’s west side reporting that electricity had gone out.
The outage prompted reports from local residents shortly after the disruption began, with some saying they heard a loud boom around the time power was lost.
Puget Sound Energy, which serves Olympia and much of the surrounding area, is handling the outage and restoration effort.
Power Outage Reported on Olympia’s West Side
Residents on the west side of Olympia began reporting the loss of electricity Friday morning.
Several local reports described a sudden outage, while others said their electricity briefly flickered before going out completely. One resident also reported hearing a boom shortly before the interruption.
The reports indicate that the outage was affecting at least part of the west side rather than necessarily representing a citywide loss of electricity.
PSE Restoration Estimate
Initial information from the PSE outage system reportedly showed an estimated restoration time of approximately 12:30 p.m. Friday for the affected area.
Estimated restoration times can change as utility crews assess damage and determine what repairs are required.
PSE’s outage information also shows that outage totals can change rapidly as individual incidents are reported and customers are restored. A recent utility-level snapshot showed only a small number of affected customers in Thurston County.
Cause of Olympia Power Outage Not Confirmed
The cause of the Olympia outage had not been established in the information available at the time of this report.
The reported boom heard by some residents occurred around the time of the outage, but there was no official confirmation that it was responsible for the power failure.
PSE generally investigates individual outage locations before identifying the cause and assigning restoration estimates.
Residents are advised to stay away from any downed power lines and report dangerous electrical conditions directly to the utility or emergency services.
Olympia Electricity Restoration
Utility crews are expected to assess the affected equipment and make the necessary repairs before restoring service.
PSE provides outage reporting and restoration information through its outage system. The company also lists 1-888-225-5773 for reporting power outages and other electrical emergencies.
Because restoration estimates are subject to change, customers experiencing an outage should check the latest PSE information for their specific address.
