The reports come only days after a separate fatal shooting in the Jane and Finch area. On Monday, September 14, Toronto police responded to Jane Street and Finch Avenue West, where 17-year-old Cashie Auguste was found suffering from a gunshot wound. He later died in hospital. Auguste was a student at C.W. Jefferys Collegiate Institute.
Police have since arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with Auguste’s death. The youth faces a first-degree murder charge and a charge of failing to comply with a probation order. His identity is protected under Canada’s Youth Criminal Justice Act.
At this stage, there is no verified information indicating that Thursday’s report near C.W. Jefferys involved a shooting, injuries, a lockdown or an active threat inside the school. Further information may be released by Toronto Police or the Toronto District School Board as the situation develops.
