John Ryan Obituary, HAVERTOWN, Pa. — John Ryan, 57, of Havertown, Pennsylvania, has died from injuries sustained in a 14-vehicle crash on West Chester Pike on Saturday afternoon, October 3, 2026.
The crash occurred at approximately 12:15 p.m. and involved multiple vehicles along one of the area’s major roadways. Ryan was driving a pickup truck near Darby Road when the collision began, according to information provided by Haverford Township police.
Investigators said Ryan’s pickup truck began traveling erratically before striking multiple vehicles. The truck continued along West Chester Pike before eventually coming to a stop near West Chester Pike and Eagle Road.
The collision involved a total of 14 vehicles and affected approximately two miles of West Chester Pike. The scale of the crash prompted a significant emergency response, with portions of the roadway closed while emergency personnel and investigators worked at the scene.
Ryan was transported for medical treatment following the crash but later died from the injuries he sustained. Eight other people were also transported to area hospitals after the collision, with their injuries reported as non-life-threatening.
Authorities have also been investigating whether Ryan experienced a medical emergency before the crash. Police Chief John F. Viola reportedly said that a possible medical emergency may have preceded the collision. Authorities also indicated that Ryan’s driver’s license had previously been revoked for medical reasons.
The possible medical emergency has not been established as the confirmed cause of the crash, and investigators have not announced a final determination explaining why Ryan’s vehicle began traveling erratically.
