Bradley Montero Obituary, CHICO, Calif. — Bradley Montero, 60, of Chico, California, died following a fatal highway crash early Monday morning, August 31, 2026, leaving family, friends, and members of the community mourning his sudden passing.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 3:18 a.m. on southbound Highway 99, north of Broyles Road, between the Nord and Vina areas north of Chico. Montero was driving a 2019 Nissan Altima when the vehicle crossed the center median and entered the southbound lanes.
The Nissan then collided head-on with a 2017 Kenworth truck tractor traveling in the opposite direction. The force of the collision left Montero trapped inside his vehicle as emergency crews responded to the scene.
Firefighters and other emergency personnel worked to extricate Montero from the wreckage. He was subsequently transported to Enloe Medical Center for medical treatment. Despite the efforts of first responders and medical personnel, he was pronounced dead at approximately 4:57 a.m.
The driver of the Kenworth was identified by CHP as 54-year-old Jose L. Estrada Loza of Anderson. Estrada Loza reported minor pain to his left side and was not arrested in connection with the crash.
Authorities have not determined why Montero’s vehicle crossed the center median. The investigation remains ongoing as CHP works to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision. Investigators said alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to have contributed to the crash.
Beyond the circumstances of his death, Montero’s passing represents the loss of a life and a member of the Chico community. Those who knew him are now left with memories of the years they shared and the moments that made his life meaningful to the people around him.
