Henry Herbert Greenwood Obituary, CLATSOP COUNTY, Ore. — Henry Herbert Greenwood, 77, of Portland, Oregon, has died following injuries sustained in a multi-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 26 in Clatsop County on Friday evening, August 28, 2026.
According to the Oregon State Police, the collision occurred at approximately 5:18 p.m. near milepost 24. Greenwood was traveling eastbound in a gray Honda Fit when his vehicle crossed into the westbound lane. The circumstances that led to the vehicle crossing the centerline remain under investigation.
The Honda sideswiped a westbound black Tesla Model S driven by 56-year-old Tomislave Lakovic of Portland before continuing into a head-on collision with a westbound black Toyota Tacoma driven by 30-year-old Samantha Reanne Martindale of Molalla. The crash then involved an eastbound black Volkswagen Golf and an eastbound Ford F-350 pickup.
Greenwood suffered serious injuries in the collision and was transported by Life Flight to a Portland-area hospital. He was later pronounced deceased. A passenger who was traveling with Greenwood in the Honda was also flown to a Portland-area hospital with serious injuries.
Several other people were affected by the crash. Martindale was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, while four passengers in the Toyota Tacoma were also taken for medical treatment. Their reported injuries ranged from minor to serious. Lakovic and two passengers in the Tesla were not injured.
Brandon J. Troost, 35, of Portland, was driving the Volkswagen Golf. Troost and a passenger in his vehicle reported minor injuries but declined transportation to a hospital. Scott Michael Harrington, 51, of Hillsboro, was driving the Ford F-350 and was not injured.
The highway remained affected for approximately five hours while emergency responders assisted those involved, secured the crash scene and conducted the initial investigation. Oregon State Police received assistance from Medix Ambulance Service, Hamlet Rural Fire Protection District, Banks Fire District, Elsie Vinemaple Rural Fire Protection District and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
As the investigation continues, Greenwood’s death leaves family, friends and others who knew him to remember a life that spanned 77 years. He will be remembered beyond the circumstances of his passing, with the years of memories and relationships he shared remaining part of his legacy.
