Nick Muffitt Obituary, NORTH HALTON, Ontario — Nick Muffitt, a dedicated hockey coach, mentor, volunteer, father, and friend, has died suddenly, leaving the North Halton girls hockey community mourning the loss of a deeply valued member of the Twisters family.
Muffitt was part of the North Halton Girls Hockey Association for more than six years, where he contributed his time and experience to both House League and Rep hockey. During his years with the association, he regularly coached multiple teams, serving as both a parent coach and a non-parent coach.
His impact extended well beyond the hockey rink. Muffitt was known for investing extra time in his players, helping them develop their hockey skills while also encouraging confidence, perseverance, accountability, teamwork, respect, and compassion. His approach to coaching focused not only on developing athletes but also on helping young people become stronger individuals.
Muffitt’s commitment to the Twisters community was recognized during the 2023–24 season when he was named the Twisters Coach of the Year. The honour reflected the dedication and leadership he consistently brought to the association and the young athletes he coached.
He was also preparing to continue coaching during the current season as a non-parent coach with both the U18B and U22A teams. His planned return to the bench made his sudden passing particularly difficult for the players, families, coaches, and volunteers who had expected to share another hockey season with him.
Beyond his role as a coach, Muffitt was a father to Gwen, a longtime Twister player. The North Halton Girls Hockey Association has extended its deepest sympathy to Gwen and the rest of Muffitt’s family during this difficult time. Hockey was an important part of the relationship they shared, creating years of memories through practices, games, and their involvement in the Twisters community.
The association described Muffitt as someone whose influence could not be measured simply through wins, losses, or statistics. His legacy lives through the players he encouraged, the athletes he helped develop, and the families who came to know him through the sport. His belief that coaching should help build strong people as well as strong hockey players remains among the lasting lessons he leaves behind.
