A 2025 Kia Sorento, driven by 62-year-old Richard Evans of Dayton, also struck the overturned tractor-trailer and subsequently overturned. Evans and his 56-year-old passenger, Ronald White of New Lebanon, were transported to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries.

Debris from the initial crash also reached the eastbound lanes, where three additional vehicles were damaged. No injuries were reported among the occupants of those vehicles.
