The force of the crash caused the intermodal container to become detached from the trailer, while the container and Jeep went through the guardrail and came to rest off the highway.

The semi-truck continued rolling several times before coming to rest on the roadway. Moreno-Prada and Martinez-Colin were both pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash caused significant disruption along Highway 26, with the highway affected for approximately eight hours while authorities investigated the collision and crews worked to recover the vehicles. The Oregon State Police investigation was assisted by Warm Springs Fire & Safety, Warm Springs Police Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation.

The circumstances described by police remain preliminary. No additional information about the cause beyond the vehicle losing control while negotiating the corner was included in the state police release.
