Dionna Causey Obituary, PEORIA, Ill. — Dionna Causey has died after being fatally shot Monday afternoon following reports of gunfire in Peoria, Illinois, according to authorities. Her death has left loved ones and the community mourning as police continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Peoria Police Department said officers were dispatched at approximately 1:18 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2026, to the 600 block of S. Western Avenue following reports of shots fired.
While officers were responding, police were notified that a vehicle had crashed into a building in the same area near City Market and that a possible shooting victim was inside the vehicle.
Responding officers located the vehicle and found adult female Dionna Causey suffering from at least one gunshot wound, according to police. Causey was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries, where she was later pronounced dead.
Following the shooting, members of the Peoria Police Department Patrol Unit, Criminal Investigations Division, and Crime Scene Unit responded to investigate and process evidence. Detectives identified an initial crime scene in the 1900 block of W. Antoinette Street.
Authorities have not released information about a suspect or announced any arrests in connection with Causey’s death. The circumstances leading up to the shooting, including what caused the vehicle to crash into the building, remain under investigation.
