Pennsylvania State Police said troopers were called to State Route 903, also known as Church Road, in Penn Forest Township, at approximately 11:30 p.m. Thursday, September 17, 2026, following a reported fatal crash.
According to investigators, Elardo had been operating an ATV northbound on Route 903. For reasons that remain under investigation, he was thrown from the ATV and came to rest in the northbound travel lane. Police said another vehicle subsequently struck Elardo and left the scene without stopping. Investigators believe the vehicle was a white Subaru sedan with damage to the driver’s-side front fender. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the vehicle or crash to contact state police.
The Carbon County Coroner’s Office pronounced Elardo dead at 12:18 a.m. Friday, and his next of kin was notified. An autopsy was scheduled at the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office and Forensics Center.
