Police in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, are searching for three suspects after gunfire struck a vehicle stopped at the intersection of Missouri Highway 291 and Northeast Chipman Road.
The shooting happened shortly before 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, in the highway’s southbound lanes. One person suffered gunshot wounds and was taken to a hospital. A second person was treated for injuries caused by flying glass.
Investigators identified a dark gray Ford F-150 as the suspected getaway vehicle. Police said the pickup had a California vanity license plate and was last seen making a U-turn before traveling north on Highway 291.
No arrests had been announced as of the morning of September 3.

Lee’s Summit police received the shooting report at approximately 10:50 a.m.
According to the Police Department’s preliminary account, the victims’ vehicle was stopped in the southbound lanes at the intersection when three people wearing dark clothing opened fire on it.
