Marilyn Lavonne Bean Obituary, NANTUCKET, Mass. — Marilyn Lavonne Bean, 66, of Bermuda, has been remembered alongside five others who were aboard a medical transport jet that disappeared over the Atlantic Ocean while traveling from Bermuda to Boston, a tragedy that has left families, colleagues, and communities mourning.
The aircraft, a Gulfstream G100 operating as Heartbeat 104 Medevac for Latitude Air Ambulance, went missing during the early hours of October 3 after the crew reported problems and declared an emergency while en route to Boston. Authorities later located debris believed to be associated with the aircraft offshore near Nantucket.
Following an extensive search covering more than 4,400 square miles over approximately 66 hours, the U.S. Coast Guard suspended active search operations. Latitude Air Ambulance confirmed that all six people aboard the aircraft are presumed dead.
Bean was traveling to Boston for medical treatment after suffering a stroke, according to reports. Her son, Sergio Wayne Lottimore, 41, of Bermuda, was accompanying her during the medical transport flight to provide support throughout the journey.
Also lost in the tragedy were four Canadian medical flight crew members: Captain Philip Childerhose, First Officer Thomas Farquhar, Flight Nurse Sarah Paton, and Respiratory Therapist Jolene Weir.
Latitude Air Ambulance remembered the crew members for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to caring for patients. Childerhose was described as a pilot with a strong passion for aviation, while Farquhar was remembered as a supportive colleague who was always willing to help others.
Paton was honored for her compassionate nursing career focused on patient care, and Weir was remembered as an experienced respiratory therapist who achieved her goal of serving in the air-ambulance field.
The loss of Bean, Lottimore, and the four medical professionals has deeply affected communities in Bermuda, Canada, and the medical transport industry. Loved ones and colleagues continue to mourn the six individuals whose lives came together during a mission centered on providing medical assistance.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the aircraft’s disappearance remains ongoing. Aviation authorities are reviewing available information, including flight records, communications, maintenance details, weather conditions, and recovered debris, to determine what happened before contact with the aircraft was lost.
As families and communities continue to grieve, Marilyn Lavonne Bean, Sergio Wayne Lottimore, Philip Childerhose, Thomas Farquhar, Sarah Paton, and Jolene Weir are being remembered for their lives, service, and the impact they made on those around them. Their memories will remain with the people they loved and the communities they served.
