Omar Poole Obituary, WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. — Omar Poole, 29, of Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, died after being fatally shot inside an apartment at the Mifflin Estates complex on B Drive early Monday morning.
West Mifflin police officers responded to the apartment shortly before 12:45 a.m. following a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found Poole suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency responders transported Poole to UPMC Mercy Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities have not released additional details about his condition before his death.
According to a criminal complaint, Poole had been invited to the apartment earlier that evening by a woman who told investigators she was in the process of ending her relationship with Richard Jetter, 27. The woman said she was inside a bedroom with a child when the shooting occurred and did not see what happened.
After the gunfire, the woman told investigators she heard Jetter repeatedly say that Poole was going for his gun. Jetter ultimately placed the 911 call, according to investigators.
Jetter later told investigators that he encountered Poole inside the apartment and believed Poole was reaching for something. According to court documents, Jetter claimed he acted in self-defense and was protecting himself, his home and his daughter.
Investigators also spoke with a woman from a nearby apartment who reported overhearing a conversation following the shooting. Both Jetter and the woman who was inside the apartment were taken in for questioning as authorities worked to establish what happened.
Following the investigation, Allegheny County Police charged Jetter with criminal homicide in connection with Poole’s death. The case remains under investigation, and further details are expected as the criminal proceedings move forward.
Family members and friends are mourning the loss of Omar Poole as investigators continue reviewing evidence and witness statements surrounding his death. His memory remains with those who knew him, and condolences are extended to his loved ones during this difficult time.
