Anthony Joseph Astorini and Maurice Levernon Mitchell Obituary, SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. — Anthony Joseph Astorini, 28, of Moore, and Maurice Levernon Mitchell, 64, of Greer, were killed in a fatal wrong-way crash on Interstate 85 in Spartanburg County early Friday morning.
The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office identified the two men following the deadly collision. According to Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger, Astorini was pronounced dead at approximately 3:47 a.m., while Mitchell was pronounced dead at approximately 3:44 a.m.
The fatal crash took place on Interstate 85 near mile marker 62 in the Duncan area, where authorities indicated that a wrong-way driver was involved. Multiple crashes were stated in the area during the occurrence, resulting in a significant emergency response.
Emergency crews and investigators remained at the scene for several hours as authorities examined the circumstances surrounding the collisions. The inquiry included efforts to determine how the wrong-way driving event unfolded and the events that led to the fatal crashes.
