LOCUST STREET, TRENTON, N.J. — Two people were killed and eight others were wounded after gunfire erupted during a considerable gathering on the 100 block of Locust Street early Sunday morning. Police responded to reports of a shooting in progress at approximately 12:23–12:25 a.m. and found multiple adults suffering from gunshot wounds.
According to the latest information from prosecutors, approximately 100 people were attending the gathering or block party when multiple suspects allegedly approached the crowd and opened fire. Investigators recovered more than 50 spent shell casings from the area, while several vehicles were also struck by gunfire.
Authorities noted 10 adults were shot in total. A 33-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man were pronounced dead following the shooting. Eight other victims, including two women and six men ranging in age from 23 to 43, were transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where they were stated to have been stabilized.
Initial reports from police and media outlets had described the event as involving 11 shooting victims. The later prosecutor information identified 10 gunshot victims, including the two people who died and eight surviving victims. Because the probe remains ongoing, agencies could give additional updates regarding the number of victims or other circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The Mercer County Homicide Task Force is investigating the shooting with assistance from the Trenton Police Department.
